About The Alberta Wish Ride

The Alberta Wish Ride has been operating since 2009, operating a one-day fundraising event for the Children's Wish Foundation in several locations. The day consists of an escorted horse-back ride through some great Alberta countryside, food, entertainment and prizes.

The event was started in Alberta by Irene White and Roger Matas who brought together a group of dedicated volunteers.  Irene and Roger have a long history as community volunteers both in Alberta and their native Winnipeg.

In 2014 Irene and Roger were nominated for a Western Legacy Award from the Calgary Stampede.  They were finalists in their category but did not win the award.  However, they feel just table sign 001
being nominated and then judged a finalist, was an honour in itsef and a huge recognition for everything they and all the volunteers have been able to accomlish.

At the rides participants do their own fundraising through pledges, then arrive at the ride for the day.  They must have a minimum of $60 in pledges to participate.  The different locations may have different formats so please see the specific ride page for details on meals, accomodations and horse rentals.

At some of the rides, a choice of trails is available suitable for different levels of experience.  Participants must
preregister for the ride through our online registration form, and please read all the rules and precautions. All riders should have insurance through the Alberta Equestrian Federation or the Saskatchewan Horse Federation. This is protection for you and your horse and is available at a nominal cost.  This is not applicable if you are renting a mount from the host ranch or riding on one of the wagons.  For an AEF membership application, click here.  For some more information, click here.

Each of the rides will have a saddle as a major prize.  For every $25 participants bring in through pledges, they get one ticket in the draw for the saddle...the more you bring in, the more chances you have to win one of these gorgeous saddles.2014 saddle
